It did not ruin our vacation and I would still go here. With a stay at Secrets Papagayo - Adults Only in Papagayo, you'll be on the beach, within a 10-minute drive of Playa Hermosa and Playa Panamá. But I wish I could have known the facts up front I think that would have been more genuine. I did talk to the manager and they did compensate me a bit which I did appreciate. But the truth of the matter is there were dump trucks and excavation machinery and noise pretty much going on all day even on a sunday! I felt that they should have let us know that in advance on the website. And it's going to be wonderful when they're done. There's a very large construction project going on above the hotel, they are building some beautiful villas for rent to families. There is one thing that everyone needs to know. The service was exemplary from all of the people that were working there. Most of the Bayview rooms have a shower that even looks over the water! There is an adult pool if you want to avoid the children! There are two Beach options. Secrets Papagayo Costa Rica: Secrets vs Dreams in Costa Rica - See 4,777 traveler reviews, 6,328 candid photos, and great deals for Secrets Papagayo Costa Rica at Tripadvisor. The hotel is situated hillside with beautiful views of the bay! The rooms are large size. This property located in the papagayo peninsula of guanacaste Costa Rica is a real gem of a location. Regarding the strictness of face masks, all staff wear them throughout and guests are expected to wear them when you are walking around the hotel (not if you are eating, drinks, sunbathing or at the beach) Overall I really loved this hotel and I would definitely come back for a relaxing break, it would have been nice to have had a bit more of a livelier atmosphere in the evenings but I think the hotel was only about 50% full so cant really blame the hotel for that. I only brought factor 15 so this reallllllly came in handy! The weather for January was 30c+ every day and not even a drop of rain. The room was really spacious, but one thing to mention is that there isnt any wall between the bedroom and the bathroom (just a TV mounted wall that separates the two) so if you need to get up in the night, more than likely you'll wake up your partner with the lights! I was impressed to see they had complimentary suncream stations at the pool & the beach, factor 30 and 50 for anyone who was interested. Check in was great, we had a fantastically located room in Building 7 which had a lovely bay and forest view, we saw iguanas and deer below our balcony and heard the howler monkeys in the mornings (great sun rise in January, we could watch from our bed!) The food was really good, my favourite was the fish tacos at the "Beach House" which you take a little boat over to (the beach at the hotel was ok but very quiet and didnt seem like the place you could sunbathe) Tapas restaurant was really nice, food delicious although it was very quiet. All the staff were fantastic, they spoke great English and were all really friendly and genuinely seemed like they liked their jobs. If you want a hotel offering entertainment and activities, apart from the beach water sport activities it was very chilled. You have to know though that it is very quiet and tranquil. I really loved this hotel, it was 5 star but not that uptight "look how rich I am" vibe.
